The Ambr® 250 Modular is a state-of-the-art benchtop bioreactor system designed to maximize productivity and efficiency in microbial and cell culture processes. This system utilizes advanced stirred tank bioreactor technology, originally pioneered in the Ambr® 250 High Throughput system, and can operate 1 to 8 bioreactors in parallel. Each Ambr® bioreactor vessel is designed for easy setup and rapid turnaround, making it an ideal choice for research and development (R&D) laboratories, process development, and process optimization.

The system features single-use bioreactor vessels, eliminating the need for sterilization and reducing the risk of contamination. These vessels have a working volume of 100-250 mL and are equipped with integrated sensors, liquid reservoirs, and syringe pumps, ensuring precise control over experimental conditions. The modular bioreactor system allows for the addition of up to four bioreactor modules, each holding two bioreactor stations. The expandable nature or the system enables laboratories to scale their operations as needed, accommodating up to eight bioreactors controlled by a single control module.

Advanced control and monitoring capabilities are integral to the system. The bioreactor controller manages all critical parameters, including pH, temperature, and dissolved oxygen (DO). The optional off-gas analyzer provides real-time data on exhaust gases, enhancing process control. The intuitive touchscreen interface simplifies user interactions, making the system easy to operate.

The Ambr® 250 Modular system is suitable for a wide range of applications, including clone selection, media optimization, and process characterization. It is particularly effective as a bioreactor for cell culture, including mammalian and microbial cultures. The Ambr® bioreactor vessels are geometrically similar to larger bioreactors, facilitating straightforward scale-up. They feature dual pitch blade or Rushton impellers, integrated gas inlet filters, and both sparge and headspace gassing options. The vessels also include single-use pH and DO sensors, pre-calibrated for accurate measurements. A further vessel option features an unbaffled design and a single elephant-ear -impeller for microcarrier and regenerative medicine applications. This vessel provides gentle mixing and efficient resuspension of microcarriers or aggregates, even at low stirring speeds.

The Ambr® 250 Modular comes with advanced software that supports multi-parallel bioreactor operation. The software includes four main applications: Process Definition, Runtime Monitoring, Experiment Viewer, and Results Viewer. These applications allow users to define experimental processes, monitor and adjust process parameters in real-time, analyze experiments, and compare plots from different experiments for comprehensive data analysis.

The system is designed for seamless scalability from cell line and process development to production scale. The geometrical similarity of vessel design ensures consistent mixing and gassing strategies across different scales, from 0.25 L to 1000 L. This makes the system an effective tool for process development and characterization, supporting Quality by Design (QbD) studies and regenerative medicine applications.
